The Retail Technology Innovation Hub is a British trade publication covering retail technology. Once a year it runs its Innovation Awards, in 2024 across more than twenty categories and, by its own account, with a record number of entries. On 6 November 2024 the shortlist for Startup of the Year was published: ten names, one of them Spreat.
The ceremony took place on 21 November 2024 in London, at the Royal Institute of British Architects' headquarters at 66 Portland Place. Alongside Spreat, the list carried be Retail Social, Boxbar Tech, Fixtuur, i love it, Legion Technologies, Orquest, ReaLift, SeeChange and Sociate AI.
What interested us about it
Less the nomination than the question it answers: does the model read outside Germany? The mechanics behind it are not national anywhere. A store provides the space, the goods stay the brand's until they sell, and the till splits the amount in that same moment: proceeds to the brand, commission to the store.
What differs is everything around it - tax law, till obligations, payment habits. That is what we have been working on since. With this model, crossing a border is not a translation job.
