Why a retail model ends up in a property award
An award from the construction and property sector going to a company that builds assortments and tills sounds like a mix-up and is not one. The category was called Tenants and Users in Focus, and the tenant here is the store.
To a landlord, retail space is worth what the tenant can earn with it. A store that widens its assortment without buying stock earns more from the same space - and is more likely to stay. That is where our model touches the property: not through the rent, but through what happens on the floor.
It is the same thought we meet in conversations with retail chains. Anyone responsible for many locations does not count in individual products but in square metres and lease terms.
